There were a good few handling errors by both teams but Alnwick maintained a period of pressure leading up to half-time and were rewarded from a third penalty outside Macclesfield’s 22 when scrum-half Hugh Todd took a quick tap-and-go and jinked through the defenders for a smart try which Callum Burn converted for 12 – 7.Īlmost immediately from the re-start a Macclesfield attack broke down deep in Alnwick’s half and another smart break from Todd took play beyond half-way. The match was played on a good surface in favourable conditions but heavy rain the previous day had all but washed out the pitch markings to such an extent that they were barely discernible and woefully short of acceptable.
